The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for Churches

First published on: 24th October 2017

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is coming into force in the UK on the 25th May 2018 which affects how organisations including churches use and store personal data.

This gives individuals more rights on how an organisation may use their data and every organisation in the EU has to comply with these regulations.

As the UK’s Leading Church Software Company, we have been planning for GDPR for a while now and will be releasing updates to iKnow Church to ensure our churches can be compliant with this legislation.

Whilst many churches are aware of these data changes, we have had lots of conversations with churches who are still not aware of the new legislation.

This regulation is a new legal framework from the European Union and won’t be affected by the UK leaving the EU. Rest assured that we are working to develop the tools within iKnow so that churches can work towards full compliance.

These changes affect all organisations no matter how they store data about people. The benefit of using iKnow Church is that we are developing the tools so that churches can have full compliance.

To ensure the security of data held with iKnow Church, we also test our iKnow software during development as well as using the services of an external penetration testing company.

We will be releasing more updates over the next few months about GDPR and how churches can meet these requirements and how iKnow Church as data processor will also be fully compliant.
